Frequency Domain Repercussions of Instantaneous Granger Causality

چکیده
Using directed transfer function (DTF) and partial coherence (PDC) in the information version, this paper extends theoretical framework to incorporate instantaneous Granger causality (iGC) frequency domain description into a single unified perspective. We show that standard vector autoregressive models allow portraying iGC’s repercussions associated with connectivity, where interactions mediated without delay between time series can be easily detected.

Stock Market Interactions between the BRICS and the United States: Evidence from Asymmetric Granger Causality Tests in the Frequency Domain
The interaction of BRICS stock markets with the United States is studied using an asymmetric Granger causality test based on the frequency domain. This type of analysis allows for both positive and negative shocks over different horizons. There is a clear bivariate causality that runs both ways between the United States stock market and the respective BRICS markets. In addition, both negative a...
متن کاملGranger causality
Granger causality is a statistical concept of causality that is based on prediction. According to Granger causality, if a signal X1 "Granger-causes" (or "G-causes") a signal X2, then past values of X1 should contain information that helps predict X2 above and beyond the information contained in past values of X2 alone. Its mathematical formulation is based on linear regression modeling of stoch...
متن کاملOn the interpretability and computational reliability of frequency-domain Granger causality
This Correspondence article is a comment which directly relates to the paper "A study of problems encountered in Granger causality analysis from a neuroscience perspective" ( Stokes and Purdon, 2017). We agree that interpretation issues of Granger causality (GC) in neuroscience exist, partially due to the historically unfortunate use of the name "causality", as described in previous literature....
متن کاملGranger causality revisited
This technical paper offers a critical re-evaluation of (spectral) Granger causality measures in the analysis of biological timeseries. Using realistic (neural mass) models of coupled neuronal dynamics, we evaluate the robustness of parametric and nonparametric Granger causality. Starting from a broad class of generative (state-space) models of neuronal dynamics, we show how their Volterra kern...
متن کاملCausality, Conditional Exogeneity, and Granger Causality
We relate notions of structural causality and conditional exogeneity as de ned in White and Chalak (2006) (WC) to the concept of Granger causality. We show that given conditional exogeneity, structural non-causality implies retrospective Granger non-causality, an extension of the classical Granger (1969) non-causality condition. We also provide a form of converse to this result and tests for re...
